Blessed is he that considereth the poor; the Lord will deliver him in time of trouble. The Lord will preserve him, and keep him alive, and he shall be blessed upon the earth.

Occupation: housewife, home health care provider

Areas of service in Swaziland: eyeglass clinic

Year served in Swaziland: 2006

I had the privilege of serving with The Luke Commission in Swaziland. It was my first time to take a missions trip. I wasn't sure what to expect. I just wanted to go serve our Lord somewhere outside America.

What I encountered while there was the worst poverty I have ever seen, but the most joyful people I have ever seen. Swazis are dying at an alarming rate of AIDS, which makes them so eager to hear about the love of our Savior.

Each day, I watched as people walked to the clinic to be seen by a doctor for illnesses they had had for sometimes years. Each day I watched as hundreds accepted Christ into their hearts and then saw them be overcome with joy as they received God's written word. Each day I watched as people received eyeglasses and were able to see well for the first time in years.

Now each day I am reminded how blessed we all are to know Jesus and how we need to heed God's calling: "Go and Tell the Nations."
