New Quarters, New Beds, New Lights, New Fans & More

Swing by the Miracle Campus these days and see so much movement, so much construction, so many happy patients, and so many patient patients waiting and wondering what’s next.

The old wing of the hospital (TOB) is being vacated for remodeling. Patients are transferred into the new wing (TOB2), even while construction continues outside on side rooms and bathrooms.

Meanwhile, on the other side of campus, dozens of workers build the surgical care center, which includes a new laboratory, a TB wing, and areas for routine medical services. This center has been redesigned in drawings several times to reflect the expansion of patient care right on campus.

“Much shifting is going on, so we can treat our VIPs (Very Important Patients) even as the ceilings are being put in, even as the rooms are being divided, even while lighting and plumbing are being installed,” noted Mbongiseni, a staff director.

These photos portray a little of this movement. Behind the movement, though, are smiles of expectation and a sense of urgency. Not to mention sawdust. (JT)
