Founder, Executive Director, and Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Harry VanderWal is the man often behind-the-scenes who directs patient care and mentors medical personnel who work with The Luke Commission. Harry also develops systems allowing TLC to maximize personnel and resources to serve more patients, which has expanded so that the whole team knows what others in their areas of responsibility are doing day-by-day, hour-by-hour.
“We still have a lot of work to do, but extinction of Swaziland is no longer discussed. Now we can focus on the future. Continuing to reach the most vulnerable in the more remote areas. Ensuring that HIV+ patients are on anti-retrovirals. And working to restore the brokenness of the adults orphaned during the worst HIV crisis.
“The adult orphans are the staff of TLC. They are now touching and part of healing a nation!” he says.
Harry supervises the teaching of his four boys and Hosanna. He loves his always-full schedule, and looks forward to whatever and wherever God leads The Luke Commission in the coming years. He looks back at the last 12 years with wonder and gratitude.
Harry is a medical doctor, specializing in pediatrics and internal medicine. He frequently consults doctors in Swaziland and North America. “Telemedicine helps all of us on the ground in Swaziland. We use it frequently and thank all those who assist us from afar.
As the Miracle Campus has miraculously become a center of excellence especially for complex medical cases, Harry recognizes that training and mentoring the 170 national staff members to reach their own people is a crucial endeavor.
