Strategic Support Team
Ask Brian Schmelzenbach why Swaziland is his favorite place in the whole world, and tears brighten his eyes. That doesn’t often happen to TLC’s soft-spoken, even-keeled staff pastor and director of staff development. “This is where God has invited me to be, not for what I can do for Him.” (And not because his grandfather came to Swaziland with the Gospel two generations ago, though this history is notable. And not because he used to be a senior pastor at a Nazarene church in Florida.)
“I love being in a support role at TLC, part of the bigger team. I couldn’t have picked a better job description. If I had chosen my own path, I would have missed all this,” Brian marvels, as he gazes around the Miracle Campus.
Pastor Brian disciples the ever-growing TLC staff, one-on-one and in group discipleship. He serves with his family, wife Missi, daughter Katie (who is now in college in the States), and son Peyton (who will be headed there soon, too.) Both of Brian’s children have served on the field at TLC outreaches and excel in their multiple skills and as quiet examples to other young people. Brian hopes that “in Christ” Katie and Peyton “will find all they need for life.”
If Brian has one verse to live by, it is: “My grace is sufficient for you, for power in perfected in weakness. Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me.” 2 Corinthians 12:9
