Where We Work
About Eswatini
The Kingdom of Eswatini, known as Swaziland until 2018, grapples with a myriad of health, poverty and transportation challenges. Bordered by South Africa and Mozambique, Eswatini is one of the last remaining absolute monarchies in the world and has a population of 1.2 million.
Eswatini has a high Gini index (51.5), ranking tenth highest in the world for income inequality. Between one-third and one-half of the adult population is unemployed. During the highest COVID-19 waves in 2021, half the population faced some level of food insecurity. With 75% of the population living in rural areas, the cost of transport to access health care means that many people delay visits to a health facility until they are critically ill.
TLC in Eswatini
Into this context, TLC seeks to bring hope, help, and healing for every patient—Every Last One. TLC’s motivated, solutions-focused team brings free, compassionate, comprehensive health care to the nation.
Patients respond enthusiastically, coming in increasing numbers each year as TLC extends its healthcare mission from The Miracle Campus in central Eswatini to all corners of the nation through fixed and temporary locations as well as outreach efforts. Other groundbreaking technologies, such as drones and telehealth hubs will continue to break down barriers to health care access for underserved populations.
